These are small objects of a scene for a diorama in 1:48 scale, not a model and not a kit. A portable computer is an unambiguous marker of time in a scene: as soon as it is lying on a table, on the hood of a vehicle or on a field box, a viewer places the scene in the present day at once. With modern subjects it is therefore among the most effective small things of all.
The scale is the distinguishing detail. The set is made for 1:48 and fits figures and vehicles in the same scale. The manufacturer also makes the same subject in further scales — for 1:35 or 1:72 choose the matching variant.
In a command and signals post, with technicians in a workshop, in an office, at the workplace of ground personnel, in civilian scenes and with figures in the field. An open display is a rewarding element — by setting the angle you can control where a figure, and with it the viewer, is looking.
The parts are small, so work with tweezers over a tray with a rim, and once washed and degreased let them dry properly before painting. Lay the base down thinly. The body of the computer looks good in a dark gray to black tone with a slightly lighter tinge on the edges; you can suggest the keyboard with a dark wash, which runs into the texture. Make the display dark with a thin light reflection running diagonally across the surface — a uniformly blue screen looks unnatural. Finish with a matte varnish and leave the sheen only on the display.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
