Masks for the long cockpit of the French Loire-Nieuport carrier dive bomber for a 1:48 model. They cover the frames from both sides.
Responsibility details are not available.
The French Loire-Nieuport dive bomber is among the least known machines of 1940 and yet it has one of the most dramatic stories. It was created for carrier service with naval aviation, received a cranked gull wing, fixed landing gear in teardrop fairings and dive brakes for a steep descent onto a target.
When German columns crossed the Meuse at Sedan in May 1940, the command sent naval squadrons armed with this type into the attack as well. The slow machine without fighter cover ran into dense anti-aircraft defenses and the losses were catastrophic, yet the crews went back again. The naval version had folding wings and an arrestor hook; the version for the land-based air arm lacked that equipment.
The cockpit of the subject is long, glazed across the whole spine and divided into a row of rectangular fields with narrow frames running between them. It is precisely on such a grid that masking by hand most often goes wrong, because small deviations add up. The die-cut parts hold the same frame width from the windscreen to the rear fairing and leave the glass clear. The outside and the inside can both be covered, so the shade of the cockpit stays separate from the top camouflage.
