About product

Eduard 1:48 F-35A RAM coating late

A special set of painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for models of the American Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II stealth fighter in the late form, in 1:48 scale. Unlike ordinary canopy masks, this set deals above all with masking the areas of the so-called RAM coating, that is, the panels of radar absorbent material, which on the F-35 have a slightly different shade than the surrounding skin. The masks are die-cut from kabuki (washi) tape and serve to create precise edges between the individual shades.

Use

  • The model is first sprayed in the base shade of the surface.
  • Following the layout, the masks are applied to the areas of the RAM panels that are to stay in the base shade.
  • The shade of the RAM coating is sprayed over, and once dry the masks are lifted; precise edges between the shades appear.
  • The set usually also contains masks for the canopy glazing and the wheel hubs.

Who it is for

The accessory is intended for modelers of the F-35A who want to bring out the characteristic two-tone layout of the RAM panels realistically without laboriously tracing their shapes by hand.

The masks are neither a paint nor a model; the kit itself and the paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

They help to spray the panels of radar absorbent coating accurately, which on the F-35 have a slightly different shade than the surrounding skin.

The layout of the RAM panels on the F-35A changed slightly over time. This set matches the late arrangement of the panels.

Sets of this type usually also include masks for the canopy glazing and the wheel hubs; check the exact contents against the manufacturer's information.
