This photo-etch from the Czech maker Eduard is an aftermarket accessory aimed at the cockpit interior of the famous SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a set of colored photo-etched parts that lift the cockpit of a plastic kit to a markedly more detailed level.
It usually includes color-printed instrument panels, side consoles, belts and other cockpit elements that cannot be faithfully molded in plastic. Colored photo-etch is fitted straight away without laborious hand-painting of the dial faces, so even a less experienced modeler reaches a convincing look for the pilot's station.
The colored parts are attached with a small drop of cyanoacrylate glue, and bare brass elements can be bent with a photo-etch bender. Do not varnish over the instrument panels, so that the printing is not spoiled; for gloss on the dial faces a gloss varnish can be applied spot by spot. Check the position of the parts dry before fitting them.
An accessory for more advanced builders; photo-etched parts are no substitute for a kit and are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue.
