The countryside behind the Normandy beaches is divided by a dense network of hedgerows: banks heaped up from earth and grown through with roots and scrub. In the summer of 1944 American vehicles were quite literally stopped by them, because a tracked vehicle riding up over a bank exposed its soft belly and became an easy target. The solution arose directly in the units. Toothed attachments were cut and welded from the steel beach obstacles and welded onto the front of a vehicle; it then drove through a bank and forced its way through, roots and all. The versions differed from one piece to the next and the number in the name distinguishes one of the forms.

Fit the part dry and check that it sits level and on the axis of the vehicle; an attachment set askew is visible at first glance on a finished model. Strip the paint from the front armor at the point of contact and level it, so that the joint holds over its whole area. The part is not made of polystyrene; it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut surplus material and manufacturing marks away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder off; wash and degrease everything before painting. The attachments came into being in the field and little care was taken over their finish, so what looks true on a model is worn metal on the edges of the teeth, a build-up of dust and earth in the gaps and rust at the welds.
