The 1:48 Douglas A-3D-2 Skywarrior Basic masking set contains cut self-adhesive templates of kabuki paper for masking the glazing of a model of the large carrier bomber of the US Navy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set from the manufacturer New Ware is prepared for the Skywarrior model in 1:48 scale. These are machine-cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper, which is used for its thinness, its pliability and its light tack. The Basic level denotes the smallest of the ranges offered, focused on the glazing.
The Skywarrior was an unusually large machine for its time, intended for operation from the decks of aircraft carriers. In 1:48 scale it makes a model of respectable size, on which the cockpit with its divided windows is a visually prominent feature. Anyone who takes on hand masking has to deal not only with the shape of the windshield but also with the side windows and their framing. A cut set shortens this part of the work to a few minutes and, above all, makes sure that the frames match on both sides of the fuselage.
On a large model it pays to mask the cockpit only after the fuselage has been glued and sanded, otherwise you risk the mask being torn off by sanding or filling. Degrease the clear part, place the mask dry and press it down with a stick. If you are building the typical two-color naval finish, spray the light lower part first, do the transitions freehand and use the mask only for the cockpit. Apply the paint in thin coats and the edge will stay sharp. Take the mask off while the paint is still fresh.
This is an accessory for a model, not the model itself. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
