Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Rafale in the C and M versions in 1:48 scale. The EXPERT grade is the widest variant of the New Ware range: besides the main glazing it also covers further areas of the airframe where an exact shape or a sharp transition between shades is needed. The masks are cut to the shape of one particular kit, so they go straight into place.
The Rafale is a French twin-engine multirole combat aircraft in a delta layout with canards. The C version is the single-seat land-based variant, the M version is the carrier version for an aircraft carrier; they differ in strengthened landing gear, an arrestor hook and modifications for catapult launches. The aircraft is conceived so that it can handle air combat and an attack on ground targets in a single sortie, which was the main requirement of the specification from the outset.
Modern combat aircraft have seemingly simple finishes, but the detail lies in the transitions: around the cockpit there is usually a matte anti-glare field, and the airframe has areas with a different shade and surface. All these places look convincing only when the edge runs sharp and straight, and that cannot be done reliably with hand-trimmed tape. The set offers ready-made shapes that you simply place and press down. When spraying, go straight down from above and in thin coats, never at an angle under the edge of the mask. With gray modern camouflage it pays to allow plenty of time between coats, because paint that has not dried enough is easily pulled off under the mask. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried and keep the rest of the sheet for small masking jobs later.
The package contains masking templates only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
