Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the model of the twin-engine aircraft Dornier Do 17Z-7 in 1:48 scale, in the basic BASIC extent. It is an aid for painting, not a kit or a set of parts for a model. In its dimensions it is based on the ICM 48245 kit.

The glazed nose is the most demanding part of the build

The Do 17 has its whole nose glazed and divided into a large number of panes of different shapes. Masking a surface like that by hand means cutting out dozens of unequal panels and hitting the edge of the frame on each one — a mistake of a tenth of a millimeter shows on a finished model, because the eye compares neighboring panes with each other. A pre-cut set removes that problem: every pane has its own mask in the right shape and all the frames come out the same width.

A procedure that has proved itself

• Start with the largest panes and work toward the smaller ones, so that you always have room for your fingers.
• Lay the masks on dry and check their position against the light; only then press them down.
• Leave the whole frame between the panes uncovered and do not overlap the masks.
• Spray the interior color first, then the primer and finally the top camouflage.
• Take the masks off gradually once the paint has dried and check straight away whether paint has crept in anywhere.

For anyone who is building the Do 17Z-7 in 1:48 scale and does not want to spend an evening cutting tape. The basic BASIC extent is the entry point into masking this subject; the more comprehensive versions of the same aircraft cover a wider range of surfaces.

The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
