The New Ware 1:48 mask set for the exhaust nozzles of the F-4 Phantom II — a self-adhesive, pre-cut film for a crisp separation of the metal shades of the nozzles from the rest of the airframe.
Responsibility details are not available.
A self-adhesive cut mask set from the Czech manufacturer New Ware in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a replacement part. The package holds a backing sheet with pre-cut shapes that follow the area of the exhaust nozzles and their surroundings. The set is cut for a particular kit in this scale, so the shapes fit without lengthy trying and trimming.
The area around the nozzles is among the most exposed places on a model. It is painted in metal shades, which have a coarser pigment, are harder to paint over and show every transition if they have to be touched up. Ordinary tape moreover creases over a curved surface and makes a wave at the edge, so the transition is never straight. A cut film follows the shape of the edge exactly and lets you spray the metal shade right up to the boundary without it reaching the surrounding finish.
Lift the film off the sheet with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it on a dry and degreased surface and press it down with a soft stick or with a finger through a piece of paper, above all all the way round. Spray thin coats square to the edge of the mask, not at an angle under it, or the paint will creep in. Lift the mask off soon after the paint has dried, while the finish is still flexible, and do it slowly and at an angle back across itself rather than straight up.
The package holds only the masking film. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
