The highest grade of the cut New Ware mask set in 1:48 scale for the Sabre in the F-86F-30 version. The package holds a self-adhesive film with ready-made shapes on a backing sheet. It is an accessory for a build; the model is sold separately.
The Sabre has a large bubble canopy with a pronounced frame and a smooth, uniformly finished airframe. Both are an ideal situation for masking and a trap at the same time: on a glossy metal or smooth finish, every uneven edge shows at first glance and cannot be hidden under surface texture. A cut mask keeps the line even along the whole length of the frame, which with tape by hand on a curved shape is practically impossible.
Degrease the surface before applying the mask; fingerprints cling to glossy finishes and a mask holds unreliably on them. Never apply a mask to a fresh gloss finish, which needs longer to cure than a matte one, or it will be pulled away. Once the mask is off, check the edge against the light and remove any adhesive residue by gently polishing with a dry cloth rather than with a solvent, which would dull the finish.
The package holds only the masking film. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
