Cut self-adhesive masks for painting a model of the P-40 Warhawk fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not an accessory that changes the shape of the model, but an aid for the spraying stage. With this maker the EXPERT grade marks the widest of the coverages offered for the set. The name lists several closely related subvariants of the subject, because they match in the shape of the glazing and the masked areas.
The Warhawk is one of those types that are almost always finished with marked paint wear and dust. That is exactly why it pays to have a clean foundation under all of it: a smeared cockpit frame or a blurred camouflage edge will not hide under washes and pigments, but will stand out. Pre-cut masks give the spray a firm line on which the weathering can then be layered with an easy mind.
The Curtiss P-40 was an American single-engine fighter with a liquid-cooled Allison engine, distinguished by the prominent radiator under the nose. It was not among the highest-performing machines of its day, but it was robust, available in large numbers and stood up to hard use. It fought in North Africa, in the Pacific and on the Eastern Front and became one of the most widespread Allied types of the first half of the war. The K version differed from the E in changes that came out of operational experience.
Finish and mask the glazing first, and only then spray the camouflage. Do the paint chipping on dry paint, with a sponge or a fine brush. Apply washes and pigments over a gloss coat, or they will leave stains. Lift the mask off before you start on the weathering, so that pigments do not get underneath it.
The package contains masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included. The masks are cut for a particular kit of the type, so check that they match your own model.
