An extended set of self-adhesive masks for the model of the Yak-1 fighter in its early production form, 1:48 scale. The masks are machine-cut to the shape of the parts of the Modelsvit 4802/4803 kits. The EXPERT designation expresses the widest extent of the set the manufacturer offers for this model.

Extent instead of difficulty

In the New Ware range the step denotes not how demanding the work is but how much of the masking you get prepared. The basic BASIC step covers the main glazed areas, while EXPERT goes further and holds additional masking elements. If you want masking solved with ready-made pieces and tape cut by hand kept to a minimum, EXPERT is the logical choice. The exact list of contents is given on the packaging of the set.

The real subject

The Yak-1 was a single-engine fighter of mixed construction with a tubular frame and wooden parts of the airframe. The early batches differ from the later machines in the shape of the cockpit canopy and in the rear part of the fuselage, which feeds directly into the shape of the masking pieces. The type became the starting point for a further line of development of fighters of the same design school.

Recommended procedure

• Degrease the glazing and let it dry, as grease is the commonest cause of paint running under.
• Take the masks with tweezers and apply them one at a time, not all at once.
• On curves work in small sections and press the edge down with a wooden stick.
• Spray the edge with the interior color, which seals it.
• Spray the outer shade perpendicular in two or three thin coats.
• Store the unused sheet flat, away from heat and direct light.
