A set of masks for the jet Me 262 A-2 in 1:48. It covers the flat panes of the windscreen, the side-hinged rear part of the cockpit and the areas intended for the crosses.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Me 262 in the A-2 form was the bomber offshoot of the first jet combat aircraft put into production service. Under the forward part of the fuselage it carried racks for two bombs and its crews were ordered to attack ground targets at a time when the type was of far greater worth as an interceptor. The swept wing and the pair of engine nacelles under it gave the aircraft a speed that piston machines could not match.
The cockpit here divides into two parts, each masked differently. The windscreen is put together from flat panes and in the middle of it sits a thick plate of armored glass. That has a thickness and a shade of its own and its edge has to be led exactly, otherwise it dissolves optically into the frame. Behind the windscreen follows a cover hung on a side hinge, which swings open sideways. The transition between the fixed and the hinged part is broken and the edge there crosses two planes at once, so that is exactly where hand-cut tape usually gives way.
Strips cut to a template hold the same width along their whole length, which on the flat panes of the windscreen is seen at once. The carrier is a yellow film with an adhesive that peels off once the paint has dried and leaves no glossy film on the clear area. Spraying the insignia through a mask has the advantage over a decal that the paint settles into the same plane as the camouflage finish and creates no step.
