1:48 Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4, cockpit mask for both sides for models with the interior on show.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of stencils for the glazing of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 in 1:48 scale, cut for the outer and the inner side of the canopy. It is used where the cockpit is to be open and the interior on show, that is on models built to be admired.
The side canopy of the Bf 109 hinges to the side and in the open position shows the whole inner side of the frames, the rear armor plate and the space behind the seat. When the frames are painted only from outside, the glass showing through gives away at once that this is a model. On the real machines the inner side was painted in the shade of the cockpit, not in the camouflage finish, so the color differs on each side. It therefore pays to finish the small details around the frame as well, because that is exactly where the viewer focuses first.
Start with the inner side and the lighter interior shade; once it has cured, turn the part over and carry on with the exterior finish. Between the two phases check that the edges of the frames line up. Hold the transparent part by the edges or in a glove, as fingerprints will show under the paint. Look the finished work over against the light; a place showing through can be put right with one stroke of a brush while the canopy is not yet glued on. Anyone who wants to keep the option open can simply seat the part on the fuselage and not glue it down at all.
