This is NOT an airplane model but a set of cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape (Japanese washi paper with an adhesive layer) and serve for accurate masking while a plastic kit of the MiG-23ML Flogger-G fighter is being painted. The parts are pre-cut to suit a particular model, so cutting the frames with a knife is no longer needed.
The MiG-23ML (NATO reporting name Flogger-G) is a lightened fighter version of the Soviet variable-geometry aircraft. Compared with the older versions it had a lower empty weight, refined aerodynamics and no dorsal fin extension. It was a capable air superiority fighter of its day with better agility and a search radar.
The EXPERT level is among the most complete variants. Besides the exterior masking of the glazed cockpit it usually also includes masks for the inner side of the glazing, colored edging of the frames (an imitation of the seals), masks for the position and landing lights and masks for the wheel hubs. It therefore makes it possible to mask the cockpit from both sides and with a different color for the frames. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts so that they follow the curvature, and after airbrush spraying they are removed gently with no adhesive residue.
A supplementary masking set, not a model on its own. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
