A set of accurately pre-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for the model of the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes it easier to paint the canopy glazing and other small areas cleanly. The masks are applied directly to the parts, so the framing of the glazing gets sharp straight edges with no laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this type usually also include circular masks for the wheel rims, which make it easier to separate the tire from the rim.
The MiG-3 was a Soviet fighter from the early part of the Second World War with a V12 engine, designed above all as a fast high-altitude interceptor. At high altitude it was fast and agile, but lower down, where most of the fighting on the Eastern Front took place, it lost out, and its armament was relatively weak. Even so it made up a significant part of the Soviet fighter force in the first months of the war. Its glazed canopy is a rewarding place for masks.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the point of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully so that no paint runs under them. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat has hardened completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to back the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
