This item is not a kit but a small metal accessory for a model. The turned Pitot tube replaces the plastic part on the nose tip of the MiG-31 model in 1:48 scale. On this aircraft it is a notably long probe, and it is precisely on long, thin parts that the difference between metal and plastic is greatest.
The MiG-31 is a large two-seat, twin-engine interceptor, so even in 1:48 scale the model comes out sizeable and gets handled more often than is healthy for it. The forward probe, meanwhile, sticks out ahead of everything else. A plastic molding of this length usually comes out of the mold with a slight bend, is hard to straighten once removed, and snaps off during normal handling of the model. Turned metal is straight, true, tolerates being touched, and can even be re-straightened after an impact.
Cut off the plastic part as close to the tip as possible and level the surface. Drill the hole by hand and gradually, so it stays on the fuselage's axis. Dry-fit the metal tube first and check that it doesn't point off to the side. Given the part's length and weight, epoxy is safer than cyanoacrylate, since the joint holds better and can be adjusted before it fully cures. Degrease the metal and apply a primer for metal. Fit the tube only after painting and decals, or it will get in the way during masking and sanding. When carrying the model, the safest grip is on the fuselage, never on the probe.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue, and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
