Dioramas do not fall apart on inaccurate rivets but on emptiness. A scene in which a machine stands on a bare surface reads like a display base; as soon as crates, sacks and supplies appear around it, it begins to tell a story. That is exactly what this accessory from the manufacturer Hauler is for. It is rendered in 1:48 scale, the range where fine detail already shows well on figures. The material of the parts and their number are stated on the box.
The set belongs among the equipment of a scene, not among kits. It suits a field camp, a distribution point, the bed of a vehicle, the corner of a hangar or simply filling dead space in a composition — where an uninteresting area would otherwise remain.
Never paint supplies in a single shade. Divide them into two or three groups and make each a little different in warmth — the eye registers the difference before it consciously recognizes it, and the scene looks richer straight away. Canvas and sacking take a thinned wash that brings the weave up; wooden crates, by contrast, call for a dry brush so that the texture stands out. Deal with lettering and markings with a fine brush or small decals, but do not overdo the legibility. Before you glue the supplies down, try arranging them dry and photograph the scene — a poor composition is recognized far sooner in a photograph than by eye.
