A scenic accessory for dioramas in 1:48 scale. It represents a milk can, that is the unmistakable sheet-metal vessel with a narrow neck, a lid and handles, of the kind still seen around farm buildings today. The accessory is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle — it is a stand-alone object of a scene, with which a yard, a barn, a platform or a vehicle bed is equipped.
Milk cans were stood on a platform by the road, from where a collection vehicle took them away, and their shape barely changed for decades: a conical body, a narrowed neck, a heavy lid and two side handles. In a diorama they therefore play a double role. They set the character of the place — it is immediately clear that this is a farm and not a workshop — and at the same time they give a scene a vertical element in an otherwise low foreground. In a group they look better than alone, even if it should be the same can cast several times.
Cut the casting off the casting block with a fine-toothed saw, sand the cut back and wash the part in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin parts — use cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. Lay down a thin primer and choose between two readings: either tinned sheet, that is a cool metallic shade with a dark wash in the recesses, or a painted can, where you lightly suggest chipped places over a colored base with metal showing through in them. Keep the rust low down and only where water collects — around the base, under the handles and on the rim of the lid. A can rusted all over looks in 1:48 more like a dirty casting than an old vessel.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
