1:48 Mitsubishi A5M2a Claude early version (outside and inside masks) is a self-adhesive Montex masking set for the glazing frames. It is not a kit, but an accessory for a 1:48 model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Machine die-cut masks for the transparent parts of a model of the Japanese A5M2a carrier fighter in its early form. The name of the set gives masks for the outside and the inside of the frames. The templates follow the curves and angles of the glazing exactly as the model has them, which few people manage with hand-cut tape.
The A5M was the first Japanese carrier monoplane fighter of all-metal construction, powered by a radial engine and with fixed landing gear with teardrop wheel spats. Its Allied reporting name was Claude. Early production versions had an open pilot's position with only a windscreen; later machines received a different cockpit arrangement. The type formed the main strength of Japanese naval fighter aviation in the second half of the 1930s, until a successor with substantially higher performance replaced it.
The curves of the frames are the reason shaped masks are bought at all. Fit them dry: seat one end along the engraved edge first, then lay the mask slowly along the curve, pressing it down as you go so that no air bubble is left anywhere. On double curves the mask may ripple slightly; press it down with a rounded toothpick, or help it with the warmth of your hand. Apply the paint in thin coats, and always the interior shade first and the outer finish after it.
The package holds masking templates only. The model, paints and glue are not included.
