The Kawanishi N1K1-J Shiden in 1:48 scale: masks for the Tamiya kit that suggest the deflection of the control surfaces and ailerons in paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
Covering for spraying thanks to which a finished fighter loses its stiff look. The movable parts stay in place and the difference arises in paint: a covered area keeps the lighter base, the adjacent strip is gone over more deeply and the sharp line between the fields suggests shadow at a hinged surface. The dimensions allow for the Shiden model from Tamiya in 1:48.
The Shiden is unusual in that it came about by converting the Kyofu floatplane machine into a land-based fighter. The wing stayed in the middle of the fuselage, which forced an unusually long main landing gear with a retraction mechanism that was among the most failure-prone places on the whole type. The powerful Homare engine in turn suffered from indiscipline in manufacture and from a lack of quality fuel. Even so it was one of the best armed Japanese fighters, with automatic combat flaps thanks to which an experienced pilot kept his agility even in a sharp turn. Experience with the Shiden then led to the low-wing Shiden Kai version.
Mix the darker tone from the base camouflage, not from a ready-made dark color, otherwise the division looks like a sticker. Work on a cured surface, press the edges of the covering down thoroughly and spray in short bursts. If you are building a machine with weathered green camouflage, it is worth matching the effect to the weathering already there.
