1:48 Nakajima Ki-43-I Hayabusa Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for spraying the texture of the fabric control surfaces of a model in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut masks intended for the rudder, the ailerons and the elevator of a model of the first version of the Ki-43 light fighter. The method rests on the texture of the fabric covering not being created mechanically but sprayed over the masks in a different shade. How many masks the sheet holds is given on the packaging.
The Ki-43-I was a light airframe with a large proportion of fabric covering on its moving surfaces. On a model the difference between a metal and a fabric surface shows mainly in the way light breaks on them. Engraved grooves tend to be too coarse in 1:48 scale and look like corrugated sheet once painted. A painted texture is finer and can be dosed according to how worn a machine you want to build.
Lay the base color over the whole area and let it cure, not just dry to the touch. Then lay the masks on and press them down lightly. Set the airbrush to low pressure and a smaller flow, hold it further from the surface and lay the paint on in misty coats. Try the effect on an offcut first and only then on the model. Once the masks are off, blend the area with a thin clear coat so that the texture does not wash away in the steps that follow.
The set is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
