1:48 Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 canopy airbrush mask is a set of spraying masks from MH models for the cockpit glazing of a model of the YF-23 prototype. It is an accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive masks shaped exactly to the frames of the cockpit canopy of a YF-23 model in 1:48 scale. Masking glazing with strips of tape is slow on a modern aircraft with curved surfaces and the result tends to be inaccurate. A pre-cut mask holds the shape of the frame, so after spraying a sharp boundary appears between the paint and the clear part. The package contains masks only; the model itself and paints are not part of it.
The YF-23 was a prototype fighter developed by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas for an American program looking for a new tactical fighter. Two flying examples were built and first flew in 1990. The machine had a strongly shaped fuselage with a reduced radar signature and characteristic V-shaped tail surfaces. The competing prototype won the competition in the end, so the YF-23 never reached production.
First wash the clear part in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry, so that no grease from your hands is left on it. Transfer the mask with tweezers and press the edges down with a blunt tip or a toothpick. Spray the shade of the interior of the frames first and only then the external color, so that the frames do not show the wrong tone from inside. Apply the paint in thin coats, because a heavy coat runs under the edge. Remove the mask as soon as possible after it has dried, ideally before the final varnish is applied. Remains of the adhesive come off with a soft cloth rather than an aggressive solvent.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
