1:48 O-1 Bird Dog - glazing masks from Dead Design. The cut masks follow the frames of the glazed cabin of the observation aircraft, so they can be sprayed without the paint flowing over.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of masks from Dead Design for the glazing of a model of the observation and liaison aircraft O-1 Bird Dog in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part and cover the transparent areas, while the frames of the cabin are sprayed in the color of the airframe.
The Bird Dog has glazing drawn deep into the sides and over the heads of the crew, because the crew had to see downward and to the sides. For a modeler that means long frames running in different directions and a row of narrow panes, which are exceptionally thankless to mask with tape cut by hand: every frame is different, the cuts wander and the width of the frame varies along the whole length. A cut mask solves this work in one laying on and the width of the frames stays the same over the whole greenhouse.
Wash the clear part and let it dry, and do not touch the surface with your fingers. Lay the masks down with tweezers, press them down above all in the corners and around the perimeter, and before you start spraying go over the whole part against the light. Apply the paint in thin coats - a thick coat runs under and the edge of the frame smears. Take the mask off only once it has dried and at an angle to the side; remains of adhesive are removed by alcohol on a cotton swab.
Dead Design also makes a variant for the inner and the outer side of the glazing for the same aircraft; this item is the basic version.
