About product

The real subject

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is an American twin-engined fighter with an unusual layout: the tail surfaces are carried by a pair of booms and the pilot sits alone in the central nacelle between them. The P-38F version is one of the early production forms. It is precisely because the central nacelle is short that the cockpit is visible from most angles, and an empty interior gives a finished model away.

What the set contains

Colored interior elements produced by 3D printing, that is with a raised surface and not with mere printing. The instruments and controls therefore have real relief and shadow. The elements are printed on backing decal paper, from which they slide off once soaked. The part is cut from the sheet, soaked for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slid off the paper into place; it has no adhesive layer of its own and a softener does not belong on it. The set is shaped for the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale.

  • 1:48 scale
  • colored interior elements with a raised surface
  • a brief soaking in lukewarm water, without a softener
  • prepared for the Hasegawa kit
  • an accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right

Building tips

Fit the interior before you close up the central nacelle; later you will no longer reach it. Rid the area under an element of flash and of molded detail that would make a bump beneath it, paint the base in a dark shade and go over it with a gloss clear coat, on which an element holds best. Cut the element out with a sharp blade, try its seating dry first and only then soak it, slide it off the paper and press it down with the blunt tip of a toothpick from the center toward the edges. Do not use decal softener; the chemicals would damage the printed resin.

Who it is for

The set suits modelers who do not want to paint tiny instruments with a brush and still want a legible cockpit. What is sold are the interior elements; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes. Cut the element out, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. A softener does not belong on it.

It is shaped for the P-38F kit in 1:48 scale from Hasegawa. With another kit, count on the shapes of the cockpit parts not matching.

Before the central nacelle is closed up. Once it is glued together you will no longer reach the interior.

Cut it out with a sharp blade, try the seating dry, then once it is soaked slide it off the paper and press it down with the blunt tip of a toothpick from the center toward the edges, so that no air is left under it.
