A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the American twin-boom Lockheed P-38J Lightning fighter in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is not a model or decals but an accessory for a build. The single-sided version means that the masks cover the outer side of the clear parts, that is, the side that is visible on the finished model. The modeler can mask the inner framing by hand, or leave it unsprayed. This variant suits a build with the cockpit closed where you mainly want sharp outer framing without measuring tape by hand. If you need to mask from inside as well, reach for the double-sided version, which is a separate item. The masks are cut to the outline of the particular Tamiya kit.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter of unmistakable twin-boom layout with a central nacelle in which the pilot sat and in whose nose all the armament was concentrated. It was powered by two liquid-cooled Allison V-1710 engines with turbochargers, which gave the aircraft good performance at high altitude. The P-38J version is recognized by the deeper fairings under the propellers, to which the intercoolers were moved; the earlier wing leading edges no longer contained them. Later production blocks were given a flat bulletproof windscreen, and dive flaps were added to the wing.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry. Lift the parts off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, set them on from one edge and push the air out. Press the edges down with a wooden toothpick so that no paint runs under them. On the angular panes of the P-38 cockpit, check against the light whether a mask overhangs onto the frame. Spray in thin coats; a heavy coat builds a step at the edge. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling back at an acute angle over themselves, and wipe adhesive residue away with lukewarm water.
It is a supplementary set of masks, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
