A sheet of water-slide decals in 1:48 scale with markings for P-39 Airacobra aircraft flown by aces of the Second World War, the second part of the series.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra is an American fighter with an unusual layout. The Allison V-1710 V12 engine sat in the middle of the fuselage behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a long shaft running under the floor of the cockpit. The nose that was freed up received a nosewheel landing gear and a cannon on the propeller axis, and the cockpit was entered through side doors of the automotive type instead of a sliding canopy. The aircraft was stocky, nimble near the ground and easy to handle, which made it a favorite fighter for low-altitude combat with a number of Allied operators.
The sheet carries markings for aircraft flown by aces of the Second World War, and it is designated the second part of a series devoted to this theme. Which particular aircraft, national insignia and lettering it holds are given in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with it, together with references for painting. By its name these are water-slide decals, that is a classic sheet lifted off the backing paper in water.
Prepare the surface with a gloss varnish, because on a matte surface air is trapped under a decal and a white haze remains. Cut the decal out as closely as you can, soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until it starts to slide on the paper. Slide it into place, straighten it and blot the excess water with a cloth from the center toward the edges. A decal softener will help the decal settle into engraving and over curves. Once it is thoroughly dry, overcoat the surface so that the edge of the film disappears.
This is an accessory to a kit. The kit itself, paints, varnish and a decal softener are not included, unless stated otherwise.
