Wheel bay plugs from the Czech brand Omask are shaped inserts made of flexible foam, placed into a model's open wheel bays before you start spraying the outer paint. The bay stays clean, no overspray forms inside, and once spraying is done you simply pull the plug out. The shape is derived from a specific kit — this set is made for the Eduard kit in 1:48 scale. This is not a kit or model parts; the model itself is not included in the package.
A wheel bay is deep and intricate, and on the inside it is a different color from the outer skin. If paint gets into it while spraying, fixing it is nearly impossible — you cannot reasonably reach inside with a brush. Masking such a shape with tape is slow and imperfect anyway. A foam plug solves the whole problem in one step: insert, spray, pull out.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter with an unusual layout: the engine was placed behind the pilot, in the middle of the fuselage, and the aircraft had an unusual tricycle landing gear for its time. That is exactly why its wheel bays look different from those of most fighters of the period. A large share of production went to the Soviet Union, where the aircraft proved considerably more effective at low altitude than in American service. The P-400 designation was carried by the export version.
