The item 1:48 P-40E seatbelts STEEL from Eduard brings a photo-etched seat harness for the Curtiss P-40E fighter. It belongs to the smaller line that concentrates on the most visible parts of the pilot's station and is supplied with color printing. The laborious shading of individual straps with a brush therefore falls away.
A plastic seat is usually molded smooth or with the straps only hinted at in relief. Thin metal belts, by contrast, drape freely over the backrest and the edge of the cushion, cast a shadow of their own and give the space convincing depth. On types with a large sliding canopy, which the P-40E is, the seat is clearly visible once the fuselage is finished.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife against a hard surface, never twist them off. Make the bends over the edge of a steel rule or in a photo-etch bending tool. Warm a strap between your fingers for a moment before shaping it; it will then hold the curve better. The joints are made spot by spot with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, and the buckles are adjusted with tweezers once it has dried. Lay the small components out on a light surface in advance so that you do not lose them.
