The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-engined fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial piston engine with a turbocharger, whose ducting ran through the fuselage right behind the cockpit and determined the characteristic deep shape of the rear airframe. The D-25 version received a teardrop canopy and a cut-down rear fuselage, so that the pilot could see behind him, and a larger internal fuel load than the older machines. Besides the armament in the wing the aircraft could carry stores for attacks on ground targets, which matches the number of small details the builder has to deal with on the model.
Photo-etched parts in thin metal sheet meant for the P-47D-25 model in 1:48 scale. Photo-etching suits exactly the places where plastic is too thick: the buckles and fittings of the harness, grilles, placards, levers and faces with fine relief. The individual parts are held on the carrier sheet by small tabs. The extent of the set, the placement of the parts on the model and the kit the set is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface; nippers make the thin sheet ripple. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool or at least over the edge of a steel ruler, so that they are sharp and in the right place. They are bonded with super glue or with a two-part epoxy applied in a small amount. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and lay on a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
