This is a set of pre-cut masking parts for modelers, not a kit of the airplane. The masks are shaped to fit the Thunderbolt model in 1:48 scale. The marking double-sided means that the set covers the glazing from both sides: besides the outer masks it also contains parts for the inner side of the canopy. That makes sense on cockpits you can see into, because the frames then have the right color from the inside as well and do not look like transparent plastic. Anyone building a model with a closed canopy will make do with the single-sided variant. The cut is calculated for the MiniArt kit.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine with a turbocharger, thanks to which the aircraft held its performance even at great altitudes. The P-47D-25 production block brought a cut-down fuselage spine and a bubble canopy, which fundamentally improved the pilot's view to the rear; the older blocks had a framed canopy and a full spine. The RE suffix refers to the parent plant at Farmingdale. Thunderbolts served as escort fighters for bomber formations and were famous above all as fighter-bombers against ground targets, where a rugged structure and heavy armament helped them.
First apply the inner masks, spray the interior color of the frames and only then finish gluing the cockpit up and fit the outer masks. Always degrease the glazing first and press the masks down around the edge of the frame with a toothpick so that no paint runs underneath. Spray several thin coats instead of one heavy one, and remove the mask while the paint is not yet cured for several days. Peel it slowly, at an acute angle back over itself.
