This set from Quinta Studio brings a color-printed cockpit interior for the P-47D Thunderbolt in the bubble canopy version on decal paper. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a plastic model - it brings out the instrument panel, the side consoles and the rest of the cockpit equipment. The elements are already colored and detailed, so there is no painting out of tiny instruments with a brush. The decals are shaped to the parts of the Tamiya kit.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was the largest and heaviest single-engined fighter of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial engine with a turbocharger whose ducting ran through the fuselage as far as behind the cockpit, and eight heavy machine guns in the wing made it a feared ground-attack machine that could deal with trains, columns and airfields alike. The bubble canopy version, known as the bubbletop, came about by cutting the fuselage spine down and gave the pilot the rearward view that the earlier razorback versions lacked. It is on this variant that the cockpit is easy to see through the large area of glazing, so a colored interior pays off.
The surface beneath each element should be smooth and free of dust; the raised relief of the plastic instrument panel is usually worth leveling carefully so that the colored layer seats over its whole area. Work with sharp tweezers and in good light, because the elements are small and easily overlooked. Work element by element rather than in whole strips - that way you can line the position up far more accurately. Let the finished cockpit dry thoroughly before you fold the fuselage halves together.
