A set of masking films for the canopy glazing of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter in the D and M versions, 1:48 scale. It covers the canopy frames from the outside and from the cockpit side, and the shapes match the Hasegawa release.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 was built around a Pratt & Whitney radial engine of nearly forty-six liters and around a turbocharger mounted behind the pilot. The long ducting swelled the fuselage into a bulk that crews nicknamed the Jug. Empty weight passed four tons, yet in a dive the aircraft outran everything the Luftwaffe put up against it.
The D version received a teardrop canopy and a cut-down rear fuselage in the later production blocks, which finally opened up the pilot's view to the rear. The M designation belonged to a batch of one hundred thirty aircraft with a boosted engine and a speed margin against V-1 missiles and jets; both versions share the same canopy shape, which is why a single set covers them both.
The die-cut shapes are laid on the frames of the canopy and the windscreen before the primer goes on. The parts for the inner side are fitted into the glazing from within, so the frame takes paint even where a brush hardly reaches. Once the paint has dried, the films are lifted off with tweezers and the edge of the frame stays sharp.
The aircraft model itself has to be bought separately.
