A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the American North American P-51B Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes painting the cockpit glazing and other small areas cleanly much easier. The masks are stuck straight onto the parts, so the framing of the razorback canopy gets crisp, straight edges without laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this kind also tend to include circular masks for the wheel discs, which make separating the tire from the rim easier.
The North American P-51B Mustang was an early version of the famous American fighter with a powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine built under license in the United States. It was that engine which turned the Mustang into a long-range escort fighter able to protect bombers deep over occupied Europe. The B version still had the framed canopy over a raised rear fuselage, that is, a different one from the later form with the bubble canopy.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully, so that paint cannot run underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat hardens completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
