A set of photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for a model of the P-51D-5 Mustang fighter. The metal elements replace detail that plastic cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter which, thanks to its great range, escorted bomber formations over Europe. The D version is recognized by the bubble canopy and the cut-down rear fuselage, which opened the pilot's view to the rear; the D-5 designation belongs to one of the first production batches of this version. The armament consisted of heavy machine guns in the wing.
These are photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale, that is thin metal elements that replace detail on the model which cannot be made in plastic: instrument panels, grilles, loops, buckles and other small things. A metal part is thinner than a plastic one, so the edges look fine even after painting and match the scale. The range of the set and the placement of the individual parts are given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with nippers; a photo-etched tab deforms under cutters. Bend over a bending tool or over the edge of a metal ruler, always in one go and along the whole length, so that the bend is not wavy. They are bonded with super glue applied in a small amount, and on larger areas with two-part epoxy, which gives time to align the part. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer, otherwise the coat will come off during handling.
This is an add-on set. The kit of the aircraft, paints, glue and the tools for bending photo-etched parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
