Combining an American airframe with the British Merlin engine from Packard license production gave American squadrons a machine that could reach Berlin and still fight there. The D version brought a frameless teardrop canopy, a lowered spine and six 12.7 mm machine guns with a more convenient belt feed. From the spring of 1944 it became the most common escort type over Europe and after the war it flew in many other countries for decades.
The carrier film of a decal measures around 0.03 mm. At one to forty-eight that corresponds to sheet metal almost one and a half millimeters thick, that is a sticker you could feel with a finger on a real aircraft. Spraying through a mask has no height of its own, so on a model there is not even a shadow to give it away.
The bubble has only three narrow rails but a large transparent surface on which dust settles easily. It pays to mask it right after it is taken off the sprue and to uncover it only at the very end. The cut corresponds to the part from the Tamiya kit. Use the remaining pieces to cover the wheels and the exhaust stubs. They also come in useful for defining the edge of the anti-glare panel ahead of the cockpit.
