A small accessory for dioramas and display-case scenes in 1:48 scale from Firma49. It does not represent a standalone model but a detail with which an environment that is already built is equipped further: hangar doors, crates of gear, sheet metal cabinets or hatches.
At this scale the line between a convincing and an empty scene is often a matter of just a few objects. A padlock on the door of a shed or on a chain at a gate tells the viewer that somebody uses and looks after the space. Because this is an element usable in dozens of places, it finds work across aviation and ground scenes alike and will not end up lying in a drawer. It serves just as well in depot scenes, where crates and drums pile up beneath a locked shelter.
Because of the size of the parts, work over a tray with raised edges, so that a lost piece does not roll away across the workshop. Apply the paint as thinly as possible, ideally with an airbrush, and suggest the metal shade by polishing the edge rather than with a heavy coat of silver. A final dirtying tuned toward rust keeps up the illusion that the padlock has hung outdoors for years. A worn piece looks more convincing than a gleaming one, so there is no need to hold back with toning toward brown.
The set is meant to round out an existing scene and on its own will not produce any model.
