A set of cut masks for the glazing of the Phantom F-4E of the early production blocks and of the Japanese F-4EJ Kai. It matches the parts of the Zoukei-Mura kit in 1:48 scale and is intended for spraying from the outside.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4E version brought what crews over Vietnam missed most: a permanently built-in six-barrel M61 gun in the lengthened fuselage nose. To fit it in, a smaller APQ-120 radar had to go inside. The early production blocks still flew with what was called the hard wing, that is, without the extending devices on the leading edge that the aircraft received only in later series. It is precisely this early form with the smooth wing that is the recognition mark for modelers.
The abbreviation EJ Kai denotes aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Mitsubishi built them under license and from the mid-1980s they went through a rebuild in which they received a new radar, modern navigation and the ability to carry anti-ship armament. They flew admirably long and the last of them finished only in 2021, which made them the very last Phantoms in frontline service in the world.
The die-cut shapes follow the division of the glazing on the parts of the Japanese Zoukei-Mura kit in 1:48 scale. This is the variant for the outward-facing surface, the one most builders choose when the canopy stays closed.
It pays to work under a magnifier or a workbench lamp with a magnifying glass. The edge of each small piece is pressed down with a pointed toothpick so that no air channel is left anywhere, and the paint is applied in several light coats rather than one generous one. A heavy coat creates a step at the boundary which stands out once the mask is removed. The package does not contain shades or plastic components.
