A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 189A-1 or A-2 in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear canopy part and onto the areas that are to stay free of paint, and are taken off after spraying. The frames then come out with a sharp, straight edge. On this type it is an exceptionally useful accessory, because the crew nacelle is glazed on practically every side. The package does not contain the model, paints or glue.
The real subject
The Focke-Wulf Fw 189 was a German twin-engine reconnaissance and observation aircraft of the Second World War with a distinctive twin-boom layout and a fully glazed nacelle for a crew of three. The arrangement gave the crew a view in practically every direction, which was a key requirement for observation and liaison duties. The A-1 and A-2 versions differed mainly in armament. It is precisely that extensive glazing that makes a model of this type one of the most laborious cases as far as masking goes.
How to use the masks
Degrease the clear part and let it dry. Move the mask with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, settle it in place and press the edges down with a rounded tool so that paint cannot creep under them. Spray the shade of the inner frames first, then the outer camouflage. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, while the adhesive is still pliable. On the spherical glazing of the nacelle, press the mask down from the center toward the edges so that no fold forms.
This is an accessory, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
