A pigeon house belongs by a wall, at the corner of a building or on a free piece of yard, not in the middle of the main action. It pays to stand it on a higher point or by a fence and to complete it with surroundings that explain the structure - trodden soil, remains of straw, small tools. Because it is a vertical element, it balances low objects such as a vehicle or a heap of material well. If you are building a scene with figures, a pigeon house will serve as a background against which their silhouettes stand out.
Wash the casting in water with detergent, cut the casting remains off with a fine saw and level the surfaces with abrasive paper. Apply a thin primer, so that the paint holds on the smooth surface. Build the wooden parts up from a middle brown, vary them with a few boards in a different shade and pull the structure out with a dark wash and fine drybrushing in the direction of the grain - it is irregularity that makes old wood old. Set the roof apart in material: shingle or roofing felt will take a darker, more matte tone and a discreet green touch in the shaded parts. Darken the openings for the birds from inside, or they look shallow. Suggest aging with water running under the edge of the roof as dark vertical traces and with light dust at the foot. Finally unify everything with a matte varnish and stick any grass or straw on only afterwards.
