It represents a hand pump with a watering trough, that is the kind of assembly around which action naturally takes place in a rural scene: filling cans, watering livestock, washing, a stop on the way. The accessory is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle — it is a stand-alone object of a scene, set into a finished diorama.
A hand pump over a well is a cast-iron or wooden post with a lever and a spout, with a trough standing beneath it. It used to stand in the middle of a yard, on a village green or by a watering place and was the only source of water for a whole homestead. For a diorama builder it is a rewarding element: it has a clear function, it explains the movement of figures about a scene and it offers a reason for a wet surface, that is one of the few effects with which a static diorama can be set in motion.
Cut the parts off the casting block with a fine-toothed saw, sand the cuts back and wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin parts — use cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. Lay down a thin primer, render the cast iron with a dark base and a hint of rust on the edges and the lever, and the wooden trough, by contrast, by layering lighter tones with a wash in the joints. The water in the trough can be done with clear modeling resin or a thick gloss gel applied in small amounts; tint it slightly green, because perfectly clear water in a trough looks unnatural. Around the spout and the lower edge of the trough add darker streaking and a hint of moss — with it the whole assembly will look used.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
