This is a photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard aimed at the seat harnesses for a plastic model of the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura aircraft in 1:48 scale. The designation STEEL in the name is carried by Eduard's range of belts made of steel. Against brass, photo-etched steel has a property that is crucial for belts: once bent it holds its shape, so it can be convincingly draped over the edge of a seat and left hanging loose. The parts are printed in color, so the laborious painting of small buckles and straps falls away.
Seat harnesses are the most conspicuous small thing in a cockpit. A model without them looks empty even when it is otherwise well built, because the viewer's eye goes to the cockpit first. The set therefore makes sense even if you put no other photo-etched parts into the model.
The Lockheed PV-1 Ventura was an American twin-engine patrol and bomber aircraft derived from a civil Lockheed design and powered by Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines. It served chiefly on patrol and anti-submarine duties.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface. Shape the belts with your fingers or blunt tweezers step by step, not with one abrupt bend, and make the folds over an edge. They are bonded in spots with super glue in a really small amount, so that the glue does not get onto the printed surface. The belts belong in the model before the fuselage is closed and before the canopy is fitted; if you only want to tone them down, use a light filter rather than an aggressive solvent.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
