A set of etched metal parts from the Czech brand Eduard in 1:48 scale for raising the detail of a plastic kit of the PZL P.11c fighter. It is not a model of an aircraft, but an upgrade for a kit you already own. On an aircraft with an open cockpit and a richly broken-up surface photo-etch pays off especially well — fine metal parts replace plastic shapes that cannot be molded thin enough.
The PZL P.11 was a Polish all-metal high-wing fighter of the 1930s with a characteristic gull wing of the so-called Polish type, a fixed undercarriage and an air-cooled radial engine. The design grew out of the PZL P.7 line and at the time it appeared it was among the modern fighters. The P.11c version was the most widespread and formed the backbone of the Polish fighter force at the end of the 1930s. Its open cockpit and exposed structure make it a rewarding subject for a detailed build.
Etched parts are separated with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with cutters — the sheet would deform. Folds are most accurate in a bending tool or between two blades, and parts are glued with a tiny drop of cyanoacrylate applied with a pin; on larger faces a slow-setting epoxy helps. Degrease bare metal sheet before painting and give it a primer, otherwise the paint chips off; if the set contains pre-painted parts, leave them unpainted and only seal them with varnish. Have tweezers with fine tips, good light and a steady hand ready, because the smallest pieces fly away easily.
This is not a model kit, but an add-on set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
