Masks for spraying Royal Air Force code letters in 1:48 scale, size variant 18. The letter is created directly in the sprayed paint.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Royal Air Force marked its machines with large letters on the sides of the fuselage. A pair of letters belonged to the squadron, while a separate letter stood for the individual aircraft within it. On a finished model this is the most conspicuous part of the whole marking and at the same time what ties the build to a particular machine. That is exactly why it pays to have the letters in a clean shape and in the same size along the whole fuselage.
These are masks cut to 1:48 scale which are stuck on the model and define the area for spraying. The number 18 in the name distinguishes the size variant within the line, beside which the line also holds the variants 20, 22 and 30. Choose the one that matches the machine you are building, because the size of the letters differed between individual types and periods.
Stick the mask on a dry base coat before spraying the letters and press the edges down properly, so that no paint runs under them. Spray in several thin coats, because one heavy coat gets under the edge of the mask easily. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint is touch-dry, not days later, when the film of the finish may come away with it. Wipe off any glue residue and coat the area according to the surface the model is meant to have.
Paints, varnishes and kits are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
