A set of cut masks for spraying RAF code letters in 1:48 scale. The letters are created directly in the sprayed paint, with none of the glossy edge a decal leaves behind.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British air force marked its machines with large letters on the sides of the fuselage. A pair of letters belonged to the squadron, and a single letter to the particular aircraft within it. For a modeler it is the most conspicuous element of the whole marking and at the same time the one by which a finished build is tied to a particular machine. That is exactly why it pays to have the letters in a clean shape and in a single size.
These are masks cut to 1:48 scale, which are applied to the model and define the area for spraying. The number 20 in the name distinguishes the size variant within the line, alongside which the 18, 22 and 30 variants also stand. Choose the one that matches the machine you are building, because the size of the letters differed between types and periods.
Apply the mask to a dried base coat before spraying the letters and press the edges down firmly so that the paint does not run underneath. Spray in several thin coats; one heavy coat easily creeps under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has become tacky, not after several days, when the film of the coat can peel off with it. Wipe off any adhesive residue and coat the area according to the finish the model is to have.
Paints, clear coats and spraying equipment are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
