A die-cut self-adhesive masking set for spraying British aircraft roundels in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Armycast. It holds the shapes for three variants of the early wartime insignia: type A, type A.1 and type A.2. The masks are stuck on a dry finish, the individual colors are sprayed in turn, and once the film is lifted off a sharply bounded insignia remains, without the carrier film a decal leaves behind.
Type A is the classic three-color roundel with a red center, a white ring and a blue outer circle, used from the interwar period and in the first years of the Second World War. Type A.1 adds a yellow outer circle to it, which set the insignia apart from the dark camouflage of the fuselage. Type A.2 is a variant with a narrower yellow circle, intended to make the insignia less conspicuous; it appeared among other places on machines delivered from American production.
The surface has to be smooth, degreased and perfectly dry, otherwise the paint will creep under the edge. Work from the lightest shade to the darkest and let it dry between coats. Spray thin coats at right angles to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask. On a curved fuselage warm the film slightly so that it settles without wrinkles. Lift the film off while the finish is still fresh, which reduces the risk of tearing the edge.
It is a masking accessory, not a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
