Three pre-cut stencils for spraying the British Type B national insignia in 1:48 scale. It is the subdued form of the roundel, made up only of a red center and a blue outer circle, with no white ring. The package contains three marking masks and no glazing mask. The insignia is sprayed in paint, so the result has no glossy edge and will stand even a heavy matte overcoat.

The subdued form of the British mark came out of the experience that a bright white ring gives an aircraft away from above at a great distance. Shortly before the war the Royal Air Force therefore ordered that on the upper surfaces of the wings the roundel be painted in only two colors, a blue circle and a red center. The Type B insignia thus became one of the first considered compromises between the duty to carry a national mark and the effort not to be seen. In the two-color form it was carried by the vast majority of British combat machines from 1939 onward and it lasted essentially unchanged to the end of the war, whereas the variants on the fuselage changed several times over that period.
Overspray beyond the edge of a stencil is a mistake a modeler as a rule discovers only after unmasking, because during spraying his own hand covers it. Paint does not spread only square under the nozzle but sideways as well, and a fine mist settles half a centimeter from the insignia as a matte tinge on the surrounding camouflage. Protect the surroundings therefore with a sheet of paper or covering tape in a wider band than seems necessary, hold the airbrush square to the surface and lower the pressure. Apply the paint from a greater distance and rather in two passes than in one heavy dose.
