This decal sheet from the Czech maker Eduard is not a set of markings schemes but a specialized accessory for stencils. It contains the small legends that a real aircraft carried at filler ports, access panels, on the landing gear legs and around the armament. Kits in 1:48 scale often simplify these stencils or leave them out altogether; a separate sheet brings them back and a model gains markedly from it when seen close up. The exact extent of the sheet is given on the package of the set.
The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was among the largest and heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a radial engine with a turbocharger whose ducting was routed inside the fuselage as far back as behind the cockpit. A rugged structure and the load capacity for external stores made it a machine suited to ground attack as well. The P-47D version was the most numerous and existed both with the classic razorback fuselage and with a bubble canopy.
Prepare a gloss base, a sharp scalpel and tweezers with a fine tip. Cut the decals out one at a time, close around the motif. Dip them in lukewarm water only briefly and let them rest on a cloth until the film releases by itself - pulling at it with tweezers means tearing. Once positioned, blot the water away and use a decal softener, so that the stencil settles into the engraved lines and rivets. Finally, even the whole model out with a matte or semi-gloss varnish.
