1:48 Royal Emils Me 109 in Yugoslav service

Royal Emils, Me 109 in Yugoslav Service, 1:48 Decals

This decal set from Exotic Decals is intended for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 E series in 1:48 scale. The nickname Emil became attached to this type precisely for the E series, the version with a squared-off nose and the straightforward shape of the engine cowling. The set focuses on machines in prewar Yugoslav service, a subject not usually found among the decals supplied with kits. The package is an accessory to a model and does not contain the kit itself.

What the decal set solves

The markings of an aircraft make up a large share of the finished impression of a model. An alternative decal set lets you build a machine outside the schemes supplied with the kit and avoid a shelf full of identically marked aircraft. Check the exact extent of the sheet, the number of options and the list of schemes in the enclosed instructions before you build.

Application and softeners

• Coat the area where the decal will go with gloss varnish and let it cure. On flat paint, air stays trapped under the carrier film and silvering appears.
• Trim the decal as close to the print as possible so that the edge of the carrier film is as small as it can be.
• Soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let it release on the paper, not in the water.
• Settle it with a damp brush, line it up and blot the excess water away with a tissue.
• On riveted and uneven surfaces use a softener: first a wetting agent under the decal, then a stronger product from above once it has settled. Do not move the decal while the product works, even if it wrinkles.
• Finally coat the area with varnish to the degree of sheen you want.

• builders of the Bf 109 E series in 1:48 scale
• anyone interested in less common user markings
• modelers who want to set their model apart from the boxed options
