A mask for the cockpit canopy of the SAAB AJ-37 Viggen in 1:48 scale, made for spraying with an airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
The SAAB 37 Viggen was a Swedish combat aircraft with a striking arrangement of lifting surfaces, in which a smaller lifting surface sits ahead of the main wing. The AJ-37 version served for attacks on ground and surface targets. The cockpit has a divided canopy with several frames, and it is precisely their careful outlining that decides how a finished model comes across.
A mask for the cockpit canopy in 1:48 scale, cut for spraying with an airbrush. The scope of the set and the placement of the individual parts are described in the manufacturer's instructions. Before buying, check the shape of the canopy on the model you are building.
First wash the glazing in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let it dry thoroughly; on a greasy surface the mask will not hold and paint will seep under it. Handle the parts with tweezers, place them along the frame and press the edges down with a blunt tool. The masks are applied before spraying. Lay the paint on in thin coats and work from the edge of the mask inward. Take them off shortly after the coat has dried, while the layer is still flexible; a small run can then be corrected with the tip of a brush.
The set suits anyone who does not want to mask the canopy with tape and cut the frames by eye, and especially where there are more frames and they are narrow. The time saved shows most on canopies with curved frames, where tape sits badly into a curve and creases easily. The package contains the mask. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
